San José Hospital

The San José Hospital was a  charitable institution founded by Gonzalo Rodriguez de Ledesma in the early 15th century. It was originally located beside the arch of the tower of the Santa María la Mayor church, and the  present building, on whose façade there is a group of sculptures representing the Sacred Family alongside the founding families’ coats of arms, was built in 1721 on the plots formerly occupied by several houses and barns bought by Andrés Nieto de Porres, a local priest who was the driving force behind this institution at the beginning of the 18th century.
